Aviva report to UN General Assembly calls SSE “astonishing success”

A year since the global commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Mark Wilson CEO of the Aviva Group, addressed international leaders in New York to discuss the acceleration of capital investment into the Goals, and launched a new Aviva report “Money Talks: How Finance Can Further the Sustainable Development Goals”.

UNEP Finance Initiative Global Roundtable
October 25-26, 2016 – Dubai, UAE
The 14th edition of the roundtable will build on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the December 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. An SSE Regional Dialogue for Middle East and North Africa will be held as part of this event.

20th African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA) Conference
November 27-29, 2016 – Kigali, Rwanda
The conference and general meeting is to be held at the Serena Hotel in Kigali, Rwanda, and is hosted by the Rwanda Stock Exchange. The event will feature a discussion on sustainability issues with a representative of the SSE.

Italy Corporate Governance Conference
December 1-2, 2016 – Milan, Italy
Italy’s second annual conference on corporate governance will take place at the Italian Stock Exchange in Milan. The two-day event will focus on Italian regulatory/market issues and how integrated governance can foster “long termism.”

Oslo Børs guidance on the reporting of corporate responsibility

Oslo Børs has collaborated with the Norwegian Forum for Responsible and Sustainable Investment (Norsif) to produce guidance on the reporting of corporate responsibility along with an example of a process to follow.  The guidance is intended to be a useful and practical tool in order to encourage efficient, comprehensive and relevant corporate responsibility reporting.

JSE remains among the world’s top regulated
October 3, 2016
The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) has been rated by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as one of the best-regulated stock exchanges. According to the WEF’s Global Competitiveness Index 2016/2017 edition, South Africa remains the top country in the world in which to attain financing through the local equity market. The latest Index ranks South Africa first out of 138 countries.

Paris Climate Deal close to entry into force as India and the EU announce plans to ratify (WSJ paywall)

India and the European Union have announced plans to ratify the Paris Climate Agreement, at which time the agreement will have been adopted by over 55 countries representing over 55% of global emissions, which is the minimum threshold for the deal to enter into force.

Nasdaq selected into the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices
September 14, 2016
Nasdaq was one of 16 companies selected to join the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index in 2016, which is comprised of 146 companies. Participating companies were scored on 22 categories across 24 industry groups. Nasdaq’s marks were distinctly higher than its peers in three major categories: Corporate Governance, Environmental Business Risk Analysis, and Corporate Citizenship.

PRI launches new report: A Practical Guide to ESG Integration for Equity Investing

In early September, the Principles for Responsible Investment released a new guide to support equity investors who are implementing ESG integration techniques in their investment process. “A Practical Guide to ESG Integration for Equity Investing” contains information and case studies on integration techniques that apply to investment strategies including fundamental, quantitative, smart beta, and passive investment.

Luxembourg Stock Exchange launches green bond platform
September 27, 2016
The Luxembourg Green Exchange (LGX) will become the platform for most of the 114 green bonds listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, which are worth over $45 billion. LGX is for issuers who dedicate 100% of the raised funding to green investments.
