BM&F BOVESPA Proposes New Regulations for Special Corporate Governance Segments
September 9, 2016
The Brazilian exchange has proposed a new set of regulations for its Novo Mercado and Level 2 Corporate Governance segments, starting the second phase of the evolution process of segments that bring together companies with the Exchange’s highest corporate governance practices. Listed companies, investors, and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the Public Hearing.

SSE 2016 Global Dialogue

The conference and general meeting is to be held at the Serena Hotel in Kigali, Rwanda, and is hosted by the Rwanda Stock Exchange.

Italy Corporate Governance Conference
December 1-2, 2016 – Milan
Italy’s second annual conference on corporate governance will take place at the Italian Stock Exchange in Milan. The two-day event will focus on Italian regulatory/market issues and how integrated governance can foster “long termism.”

China aims to launch Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock-Connect program in mid-December

China is aiming to inaugurate a stock-trading link between Shenzhen and Hong Kong around mid December that will allow global investors access to the country’s tech-heavy exchange.

130 Investors Urge G20 Nations to Ratify the Paris Agreement
August 24, 2016
Ahead of the upcoming G20 meeting in Hangzhou, China, 130 investors with over $13 trillion in assets under management wrote to the G20 heads of state urging them to ratify the Paris Climate Agreement this year and to double global investment in clean energy, strengthen climate disclosure mandates, develop carbon pricing, and phase out fossil fuel subsidies.

Deloitte: Effective governance practices and accountability result in “investor grade” reporting

Deloitte’s Kristen Sullivan says that reporting companies need to take measures to establish effective governance practices and accountability to drive high-quality, “investor grade” reporting. She also noted that the absence of accurate, relevant, and meaningful ESG data that can be used to inform management decision making and measure performance makes it harder for companies to create value based on the information, and leaves investors struggling to interpret and incorporate ESG information into their decision making in a meaningful way.

White House officials: To fight climate change, markets need to play a major role

Singapore Exchange: Need for disclosure should account for current conditions

Singapore Exchange chief regulatory officer Tan Boon Gin said that listed companies should consider current economic conditions in determining whether a piece of information is material and should be announced, and boards should err on the side of disclosure when there is doubt.

Japan’s Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) is accepting applications for an ESG index to try and maximize long-term investment returns through minimizing negative externalities related to environmental and social issues.

China expands its green bonds market with clearer policies

The largest, multi-denominated issue of green bonds on the international market so far marked a major expansion in China’s green bonds market. Along with that came a call from investors for policy support, in particular for standards on a third party certification.

Kenyan banks, through the Kenya Bankers Association, are working to develop a Green Bond Market and have partnered with Nairobi Securities Exchange towards raising the country’s first bank-supported climate change-aligned corporate debt instruments in the next six to eight months

Oppenheimer files for two ESG ETFs with revenue-weighted feature

Two proposed funds, Oppenheimer ESG Revenue ETF and Oppenheimer Global ESG Revenue ETF, will track the underlying indices and will then seek to re-weight those companies as per their revenues earned.

CalPERS names Marcie Frost as new Chief Executive Officer
July 14, 2016
The CalPERS Board of Administration named Marcie Frost as the Pension Fund’s new chief executive officer. She will start her new role with CalPERS on October 3, 2016, replacing Anne Stausboll who retired at the end of June. Doug Hoffner will serve as interim CEO.
